In Elyndra, light is more than a gift. It is a measure of worth.
Those who bear white light are praised as pure, while black light is feared as a sign of calamity. Beneath this simple division, an entire society has built its laws, its judgments, and its understanding of good and evil.
But light can deceive, and darkness can conceal truths that the powerful would rather keep buried.
When the destruction of Vael leaves Mudhir branded a monster, the official story seems settled. Yet the ruins hold unanswered questions, and records hidden from public view reveal a history far more troubling than the one Elyndra has been taught to believe. As Lubna and others uncover the truth behind the White Tower and the secretive Lantern Project, they must confront not only the people responsible for past devastation, but also the beliefs that made such devastation possible.
The path to change leads through buried memories, difficult truths, and a reckoning that no single revelation can complete. When the light that has divided society is finally lost, Elyndra must discover what remains when color can no longer dictate who deserves trust, fear, or compassion.
White Because Not Black is a dark fantasy about prejudice, guilt, truth, and the fragile work of rebuilding after injustice. In a world that has mistaken appearances for morality, the hardest task is not exposing the darkness in others, but learning to see beyond the light.
