Humanity has entered an extraordinary age. Machines can produce language, algorithms can influence decisions, digital platforms can turn strangers into celebrities, and information can travel around the world in seconds. Businesses operate across continents, governments collect enormous quantities of data and scientific discoveries continue to expand the boundaries of what people can accomplish.
Yet beneath this astonishing progress, many familiar human weaknesses remain. Greed continues to disguise itself as ambition. Vanity dresses itself as success. Political arrogance calls criticism disloyalty. Indifference hides behind statistics, while exploitation sometimes presents itself as efficiency. We have developed increasingly sophisticated tools without necessarily developing the wisdom required to use them well.
The Modern Beast Fables was conceived as a literary exploration of this contradiction.
The fable is one of humanity’s enduring forms of storytelling. Through simple characters, memorable situations, symbolism, and unexpected consequences, a fable can reveal truths about human behavior that might otherwise remain hidden behind social conventions. Animals, rulers, merchants, travelers, machines, and ordinary villagers can become mirrors in which readers recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their own societies.
