Troll’s-Eye View

Classic fairy tale villains get to share their sides of the story in this collection from the multi-award-winning anthologists.

In a bookshop in rural Maine, a good for nothing, unambitious young man finds his calling, in Delia Sherman’s « Wizard’s Apprentice. »

A wife’s giant confronts a mischievous thief who dares to invade her home in Peter S. Beagle’s « Up the Down Beanstalk: A Wife Remembers. »

Garth Nix tells the tale of a runaway girl with extremely long hair who becomes « An Unwelcome Guest » for a witch and her familiar.

A newlywed bride moves into « Castle Othello » and uncovers the Moorish Prince’s shocking secret in Nancy Farmer’s « Bluebeard »-inspired story.

Sugar and spice—but not everything nice—are the ingredients that make up one of fairy tale’s most infamous baddies in Catherynne M. Valente’s « A Delicate Architecture. »

These monstrous and misunderstood antagonists—and ten more—reveal their motives in Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling’s Troll’s-Eye View: A Book of Villainous Tales, featuring award-winning and New York Times–bestselling authors.
